UK Baby! Parts 5 and 6
For our last days in the United Kingdom (For this trip, that is. Hehe), we went to a couple places outside London and within London.
On our first day back (fresh from Contiki), we met up with Irene and had dinner at Wagamama, this kick-arse Japanese restaurant right around the corner. We were craving for Japanese food, and I treated my brother to a well-deserved Asian dinner. We were also celebrating Tonton's Best Thesis award as well as Rommel finally graduating from Law School.
The following day, we went on a Golden Tours day trip to three UK tourist hotspots. First stop was Windsor Castle. We've seen a couple of castles on this trip, but I think Windsor feels most homey of them all. Prolly because it's a working castle and the Queen herself was there when we visited! We also saw the changing of the guards, which was pretty nice.
Next stop was Stonehenge. I know they're just a bunch of stones in the middle of nowhere, but there's this overwhelming feeling when you see it. It's right smack in the middle of green, rolling hills. And the symmetry, given the age of these stones, is quite amazing. All in all, these stones are pretty mysterious!
Our final stop that day was the Roman Baths at Bath. Bath in itself is pretty charming and quaint! We wish had more time to go around. The Roman Baths... were just ok. Hehe. We took nice pictures there.
The following day, we went around London. Rommel and I finally got a chance to go inside Westminster Abbey with Tonton.
Next stop was the Tower of London, one of the top tourist attractions in London. The Beefeater's guided tour was worth waiting for. His stories were pretty entertaining!
Right beside the Tower of London was the Tower Bridge (often mistaken for the London Bridge). Photo op!
We still had some time, so we squeezed in a visit to St. Paul's Cathedral, which was pretty majestic as well. This is where Lady Diana Spencer and Prince Charles tied the knot more than 2 decades ago!
To finally wrap up our London stay, we went to see the Lion King at the Lyceum Theatre at Covent Garden. The hair on the back of neck just stood while watching the opening number ("The Circle of Life"). We are huge Lion King fans, and it was pretty amazing how they translated the animated film into a musical!
