Impulse buys for the week

It's past two in the morning, and I'm still in the office (talk about a rockin' social life!). To pass the time while waiting for my party animal brother, I've put my new Nouvelle Vague CD in the player and it's rocking! The DJ in Tower Records was playing the CD when I was paying for my purchases, and I just fell in love with her rendition of "Can't Just Get Enough". It was infectious enough to merit a return to the said music store. A fusion of New Wave and Brazillian Bossa Nova. Soooo very cool...

More cool purchases from Tower Records today, The Best of Disney, A Collection of All Time Favourite Disney Hits. Sing along to Timon and Pumbaa, or Mary Poppins, or Sebastian. Brings back so many fond childhood memories.

You know it's not a good day at work when...

You should've kept a business partner in the loop, but you didn't.
You squint while staring at the computer screen
Your back, your neck, your arms, your hands, and your head hurt like crazy
You stay till the wee hours of the morning working on something, only to find out the day after that you have to re-do everything.... and worst of all, no one appreciates the work you put in.
You dread Mondays and cry tears of joy over Fridays
You feel like you're not good at anything you do.
Going home just means, bringing out your computer, logging in, and working till your eyes simply give up on you
You have so much to do and a huge chunk of it are admin non-chargeable tasks
You realize four years of your life has past, and you're not an inch closer to achieving your life dreams
You're sleepy in the office, but totally energetic when outside

Blurried Vision

Not such a great day in Accenture-ville today. I was executing my Elemica Enhancements scripts sans wide-eyed clear vision. Blame it on starring at the computer monitor excessively these past few days. During the latter part of the day, I was half-squinting, just to decipher the words on my screen. I think my eyes are crying out for help, in dire need of a visit to the ophthalmologist... or is it the optometrist? Whatever. Eye Doctor!

Big news in the office today. As my friend put it, "People Movement/Change", or something to that effect. Oh yes. People will forever be moving, in and out of our lives. Simply take our friends for example. We've all had friends who we were close to at some point in our lives. You thought you'd be friends forever. But there are unevitable circumstances. Changes in our lives and ourselves, that draw us apart.

Ahhh... the melodrama.... Argh. Mondays. Manic Mondays.

Breaking my blog silence

It's been two weeks almost since my last blog... now I'm breaking my silence... latest happenings --

I have just recently rediscovered my love for the Eraserheads, famed local band responsible for the Filipino alternative movement in the early 90s. Their songs are sooo reminiscent of college days. Pretty universal, I would say. Across all colleges and universities. And because of Hero's BCuz of U, I've found a new love for "With a Smile", hence the presence of the E-heads Anthology CD on my player for the past three days.

I sooo love this song! Something I would like my soon-to-be-boo to sing to me. Lyrics to go...

With a Smile by the Eraserheads

Lift your head, baby, don't be scared
Of the things that could go wrong along the way
You'll get by with a smile
You can't win at everything but you can try.

Baby, you don't have to worry
'Coz there ain't no need to hurry
No one ever said that there's an easy way
When they're closing all their doors
And they don't want you anymore
This sounds funny but I'll say it anyway.

Girl I'll stay through the bad times
Even if I have to fetch you everyday
I'll get by if you smile
You can never be too happy in this life.

In a world where everybody
Hates a happy ending story
It's a wonder love can make the world go round
And don't let it bring you down
And turn your face into a frown
You'll get along with a little prayer and a song.

(Too doo doo...)
Let me hear you sing it
(Too doo doo...)

In a world where everybody
Hates a happy ending story
It's a wonder love can make the world go round
But don't let it bring you down
And turn your face into a frown
You'll get along with a little prayer and a song.

Lift your head, baby, don't be scared
Of the things that could go wrong along the way
You'll get by with a smile
Now it's time to kiss away those tears goodbye

(Too doo doo...)
Let me hear you sing it
(Too doo doo

Huge thanks to E-heads to, for my sudden longing for a soon-to-be-boo from U.P. Someone a little offbeat and quirky, who I can bring anywhere! Down-to-earth, but with a killer sense of humor, spanning all classes. Someone adds a tad of "Funky-ness" to his wardrobe, but is still presentable. In Hollywood, he'll be like, Johnny-Depp meets Conan O' Brien. Perfect!

More thoughts these past few days...

Oh, change will always be constant. Change here and there. Change everywhere. Good to be prepared for change, but not so good expecting a lot from it either. I've been with Accenture for the past four years (officially on the 19th of February). Big thanks to Accenture for my professional IT experience, people I've met, memorable fireworks display, gangs I belong to, 3 trips to the US, a trip in Singapore, and another one in Hong Kong. I was talking to my Dad this week, and he was telling me I better decide where I want to stay long term. I'm friggin' 25, not getting any younger. Made me think about how all our decisions, post college graduation, pretty much affect us in a huge, huge way! We make decisions, and these decisions drive us to where we're going.

Bigger question looming in the horizon : where do I really want to go anyway? So easy to dream of the life I want to have, but pretty difficult to decide how to get there, and which dreams are worth pursuing.

Hehe. Small serious section right there. Moving along...

The Fiesta ng Tondo last Sunday was super fun! There was a lot of people singing to "Viva viva Sto. Nino!" and a whole lot more drinking the afternoon away. Mr. Jose Cuervo was in our midst once again. Haha! Musings in writing : Since when did we become the drinking family? Hehe! But good fun though, good fun.

American Idol just started by the way... Still can't believe how some of these parents encourage their children who are terrible-singers. Baffling.

Weekend's here! Yahoo! More blogging hopefully next week.

With a sigh.... my Hero....

Maniacs and fanatics.... Yes. We were a little of both today. Maan, Karina, Macky, and I. Thanks to the power of Allan Forte, Kuya Ritchie's good friend, we were introduced to the realms of ABS-CBN. We also made a new friend in Mang Rudy, Jodi's driver, and our unofficial guide. It all began with glittery, blushing faces, a short peppermint mocha drink at Starbucks Loop, then a walk to Jodi's dressing room. She was really pretty. So anyway, alongside all the screaming, quite aggressive fans, we crammed ourself into this small studio. Macky and I stayed behind, where the teleprompter guy did his thing (and screamed his angry lungs out at fans who trampled on his cables). Maan and Karina decided to leave, so we transferred to ASAP Fanatic. The best decision of the day!

ASAP Fanatic was so much fun that the more stressful ASAP Mania. The director was waaay friendly, kidding around and making funny remarks. We have the better seats in the house (would've been the best, if not for the camera men jamming themselves in the small walkway in front of us, and the sometimes possessed dancers who after some stints, decide to land a few centimeters from us with a thud). The stars would walk past us, and it was super fun! Seeing how the production team worked (just like clockwork man!) After 45 minutes of dancing, a little hosting, and the autographing, flash-photography anctics of countless disobedient fans, the "fanatic" was over. Maan and Karina were lead again by Mang Rudy to have a picture with Hero. Much to my dismay, as I wanted to have a picture with him myself. BCuz of U has made me think twice about this SCQuester. He's a cutie!

So anyway, dejected, we went back to the basement carpark, Karina telling me that there is always a next time. When suddenly, Hero emerged from the staircase where we came from ourselves! Apparently with his family! Courageously, I left all my things and dragged Karina along with me... and voila! A photo with Hero.... Sigh!

This was such a cool experience! Seeing so many stars all at once, finding out how small the studios actually are, and just giggling with my favorite girls. :) There will be next times! Or dare I say... there SHOULD be!

The Year That Was...

The best of 2004...

The places I've been to :

Uh_huh2004 : My best US trip thus far! Had a blast with my girl pals! Best moment - laughing ourselves to a stomach ache, while watching Maan do her Ignition Remix rendition, cross-eyed, at the local I-Hop.

Singapore_Sling_2004 : Super fun with the Bausas sisters in Singapore! To me, Sing is the New York of Asia. A melting pot of cultures and a promise of strong purchasing power to whomever works there! Vitamin Zara kept me alive! Best moment - reminiscing about our high school pals while on our way to the Night Safari.

Boracay_Babies_2004 : Redefining family vacay! A week after getting back from the US, I was whisked away to the sunny island of Boracay, the grandest family vacay in the recent history of the Tanquilut family... with the Torreses, Tita Marison, and Lola in tow, we painted Boracay red! Best moment - Lounging around Station 2 beach while drinking a Mango Melon shake.

Weddings I've planned...

Started the year with the bang - Arteta-Torres Wedding. This one oughta go to the history books. Tis the most I cried on a wedding. The father-daughter dance was just heart-wrenching... but in a good way! We all came out of the reception hall loving ourselves a tad more.

And not to be outdone, the Desiderio-Mendoza Wedding was a feast for the eyes. The lovely set-up at Cafe Bremante raised the romance notch. The gowns were simply delightful. Vibrant in colors! Show stealers : MTV of friends and family! And the father-daughter dance.... It's "Awwwwww" with a capital A.

The last wedding of the year, the Olarte-Sanchez Wedding was impeccably executed! Grade A! Everyone was game for the "kissing game", and couples in the audience found themselves feeling extra sweet to their partners. Food was superb! And the couple, impressed and grateful beyond words.

Movies I saw and loved...

Numero Uno... Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. Charlie Kauffman is a genius. Jim Carrey and Kate Winslet were perfect as Joel and Clementine. Although I've never been in a relationship, I was just deeply moved by the sadness of erasing someone from your memory and regretting it along the way.

Dos por dos... Spiderman 2 and The Bourne Supremacy 2. These sequels just outdid their predecessors! The loved the humanity of the super hero, as shown in Spiderman 2. And Matt Damon just blew me away! The movie is the best action flick I've seen ever! I'm no fan of action movies, though, so don't take my word for it. Hehe. But it was great!

Tres for us loveless...My Sassy Girl and Before Sunset. As the end credits rolled for each of these movies, I had suddenly longed for an extraordinary twist of fate and a second chance at love. These two movies fueled the romantic in their viewers. My new-found love for Korean entertainment led me to My Sassy Girl (wish I can be someone's Sassy girl!), and my low expectations brought me to Before Sunset (wish I can share a meaningful and interesting conversation).

Incredible at the Fourth of July....The Incredibles! In a nutshell... Incredible! It wasn't just a cartoon... it was movie! Story-telling and character development were wonderful and gracefully done.

Five-Os....Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Bridget Jones Diary 2, and Mean Girls . Not exactly related to each other, but these three movies I loved too! Alfonso Cuaron did a fantastic job with Harry. The look and feel of the movie was darker than its two precedeccors. Bridget Jones. I loved her because of Mark Darcy. Nuf said! And Mean Girls.... Lindsay Lohan is a teen princess! This movie was all about laughs!

ETC and so much more...

The rebirth of cable television! Not since our first month of subscription to Sky Cable has our household been so enthralled with the telly. ETC was the channel to watch, introducing to fabulous shows!!!

Numero uno on the TV list... The O.C.! The obsession began when I chanced upon the first episode. Lizjoy was crazy about this show, and I wanted to find out for myself what the fuss was all about... hence rushing home early on Tuesday to catch the 9PM show, and the purchasing of the quite expensive 27 disc set of the first season. I loved Ryan in the first episode, Mr. Brooding with the messianic complex. Then swept away by Seth and his wit in the tenth episode. As I had described it after episode one, "It's like Beverly Hills 90210 meets Dawson's Creek, minus the philosophical mumbo jumbo."

The most fabulous queers ever.... Queer Eye for the Straight Guy. Carson, Kyan, Ted, Jai, and Thom all became household names... well, at in my household at least.
